I was on my bed with my laptop when my mom turned off the lights and said that she wanted to sleep early that day. I kept my laptop away and was about to go to sleep when I realized that I hadn’t taken off my socks. As I was going to keep my socks in my cupboard, I stopped in front of the mirror for a reason I still don’t know. As I was looking at myself in the mirror, I suddenly saw a woman behind me in a white gown and with a candle in her hand. I got so scared that my heart missed a beat. The woman had hollow black eyes, a pointed nose, thin lips, and skin as white as snow. I should have turned around and checked whether that woman was really there or was I just imagining it but I didn’t turn around because somehow I knew I wasn’t assuming it. Now, of course, a woman that scary isn’t on the list of the things I normally assume. I was scared stiff and couldn’t run away, I couldn’t get my lips to move, so I couldn’t call out for my mom or for my dad and my sister who were outside in the living room, watching their favorite show on television. Even if I could have moved my hands, they couldn’t have been of much help as they were already occupied with my smelly socks. So I closed my eyes (hoping that it would give her the message that she should just go away as I wasn’t interested in seeing her).
While my eyes were closed, I realized that the situation I was in was very close to what I heard happened in the horror movies. I tried to guess what could happen next but couldn’t do that because I hadn’t seen any of the horror movies myself to know what happens in these situations. It was now that I finally wished that I had watched at least one or two horror movies and ignored the heebie-jeebies that they gave me.
I was welcomed back to reality when my mom asked me why I was standing there like a statue. I suddenly opened my eyes and saw that the ghostly woman wasn’t there anymore. As I mentioned before that I am sure that I hadn’t assumed anything. So, if nothing, this at least proved my assumption that ghosts really do exist in the real world.
My mother asked again if I was listening to her or not. I told her that I was just going to keep my socks and sleep. I decided that I won’t tell anyone about that woman yet because I know that no one would believe me and would make fun of me by saying that I was still a toddler.
The next day, we were going to my father’s friend’s house. I slept most of the time on the way there as I couldn’t manage to sleep last night after seeing that woman. We finally arrived at our destination after a long drive of four hours. We rang the doorbell and my Uncle Sam opened the door. He and my father were delighted to see each other. Uncle Sam took us inside his house and called his wife. I had met Uncle Sam before but it was the first time that I was going to meet his wife. She came into the living room and as soon as I saw her, I was scared out of my wits as I was standing right in front of the ghostly woman.
